Book Review: Shift
I’ve shared bits of this book on Instagram Stories in the past week (What? You aren’t following me on Instagram? I read snippets on IG Stories regularly. Then, I post what ya’ll think of those snippets. It’s like a mini book club, sort of. Click here to join the conversation.)
Author Abby McDonald wrote Shift: Changing Our Focus to See the Presence of God for those of us who could use some help to see where and how God is working in our lives. “If we desire a faith that moves our faith forward, we have to shift our focus beyond what we can see with our eyes.” Amen, right?
Abby tells stories of how God has worked behind the scenes, sometimes years in advance, to bless friends in unexpected ways. She also tells stories of how God’s word shifted her perspective of her own life, showing her how deeply he loves her even when, or especially when, it appears no one else notices her presence or her work.
Abby weaves stories from the Bible into little lessons that inch us closer to the perspective God has when he looks at our lives. “God needs time to work in our hearts to make us see what he sees. As we’re working and doing what he’s asked, he’s cultivating a heart that’s able to discern his presence more clearly.”
Each chapter ends with a few questions to ponder alone or in a small group. Those questions would make this book an excellent choice for a book club or small group Bible study.
I always, always, appreciate it when someone shows me a new perspective on an old story. Shift does just that.
Shift releases next week but you can pre-order it now and get the first THREE chapters digitally for FREE. Abby has a few other pre-order bonuses for you. To connect with Abby and find those free pre-order bonuses, click here.
